WA State gives and takes away Scholarship

I try so hard to make my posts as lite as possible, I've even restrained from posting anything political and I really haven't "vented" in a while.

At this moment, I feel as if I was punched in the stomach and spat on.

My daughter won a scholarship from the state of Washington to pay for tuition for two years at the college of her choice here in WA, but due to the "recession" she will not be recieving the funds, only a certificate saying she won.

I am mad as hell and I am bitter and my heart aches for my daughter as she was anxiously awaiting the release of the winner's names. I don't even know why they bothered going through with the "scholarship". She is crushed and I am left completely speechless. Graduation is about a week away and this has brought a dark cloud over what was supposed to be a special time.

Thank you Shelley, I'm sure peace will come once the tears stop.

Now that is the craziest thing I've ever heard! What in the world are they thinking of honoring her with an empty promise? It's beyond ridiculous. One thing is sure, God is not surprised by this rotten turn of events and He's in the Providential reversal business. Praying that you will turn this all over to Him and allow Him to get to work on this in His way. He has your daughter's and your best interests at heart.

Thank you Vee....
If they were not going to honor the 2011 scholarships, they should've told the schools who were submitting entries on behalf of the nominees to not expect compensation. To award a "scholarship" and then renig on the funds is just shameful.

Inconsideration and rudeness are hard to understand when you are not that way and unfortunately there seems to be a lot of it going on lately. My daughter and I live by the motto everything happens for a reason. I hope the reason is that there is something much better for your lovely daughter.

How incredibly stupid that they are going to give her merely a certificate. I don't blame you in feeling betrayed and angry over this turn of events.

But this must also mean that another door will open! It may not be right now, but a different path will be laid out for her. Please keep the faith!

Oh my....I can so relate! I have a friend who has had their child's special needs summer program cutback so now this child's hopes are dashed! Iyeeee....I am so sorry sweetie.

What a terrible situation to be in. Maybe if you took that certificate to different colleges they might honor it?? Worth a try. Have her apply many places, we found that some of the private schools gave many more scholarships. My dd want to the University of findlay.($33,000 a year)...but after all the scholarships she only paid $4000...keep checking around! Best wishes and give her a hug! Dianntha

You have every right to be mad..to be upset. This is just awful. Just crazy...but yes, peace will come...but you are totally entitled to feel the pain!
Your daughter accomplished something amazing and that is something no one can take away!
